Standing Rock, North Dakota, served as the battleground between racist, corporate land thieves and those protecting it. On December 5th, 2016, the Sioux tribe and the water protectors had an eviction notice. Local authorities, which seemed more akin to an army, arrived to enforce the order. Then thousands of veterans came to the aid of those of us who were protesting. They told us that they had vowed to protect this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
The day ended peacefully with President Obama's announcement that the Dakota Access Pipeline couldn't go further until there was an investigation of the effects of this construction on the environment.
Unfortunately, on January 24th, 2017, Donald Trump bypassed the need for an investigation and approved breaking ground in the Sioux reserve to build the Dakota Access pipeline through Sioux land.
